family

The past two weeks have been amazing. Traveling to Haiti, LA, SD, and NC gave me the opportunity to explore so many aspects of self -- my philanthropic spirit, my family side, friendships, scholastic, career, and just time spent with myself. I'm already looking forward to my next worldwind adventure... who wants to come with me?!?

An annoying cold since Friday has been the only downside. The cold has caused me to have a sore throat, a cough that sounds like a smoker, and general fatigue. I kept joking with my mother that I hope I didn't catch some kind of crazy tropical disease while in Haiti! Moments before leaving North Carolina my mom's boyfriend asked me if it could be possible that I were pregnant since I've lost my appetite as well. Hahaha! Unless there have been some advances in technology that I could have a baby through breathing in the vicinity of a man, no chance.

I wasn't offended by the comment. Rather, I found it to be rather interesting comment all things considered. Having babies almost seems like catching a cold in my family. During the course of the 3 days in NC, I met up with a 20-year-old cousin who is having a baby with a 30-year-old woman; a cousin in Texas just delivered a baby girl; my half-brother recently married a woman half his age, who is now 4 months pregnant; another cousin who already has 4 kids is talking about having child #5; and we're all wondering that now that my half-sister has reached the magical age of 47 if she will have the "bonus" baby that most women in my family have been blessed to have. So, to see me at 31 and still without children, I think most in my family are frankly taken a bit aback. Wondering if there is something wrong with me even. Fortunately, for me, my mother has not seen this as a surprise. Seeing that I am her only child, it's a good thing her expectations are good because if she wanted grandchildren she should have had a much better contingency plan!

It's now 10:48pm and I'm happy to be back in DC. I enjoyed my vacation and now am ready to get things done.
