interesting quotes

QUOTE: "Since creative people work for 'the love of a challenge' and are repelled by financial rewards which they perceive as 'bribes,' [XYZ Company] focuses on stimulating their minds and minimizing hassles."
Chris used to laugh at me because I would say tell my boss that I wanted a new challenge in my life, and months later I'd get a raise. I never cared about the $$, I just wanted to enjoy coming to work & feeling like I had made a difference. Part of me really did feel like I was getting bribed to shut up!

QUOTE: "we're too distracted with the 'doingness' of our daily lives, so we take the easiest, most accustomed route or the path of least resistance, even if it leads us somewhere we don't really want to go."
My current boss reminds me that part of the experience in my assignments is to get to know the people that I am working with. Although I do take time out to get to know people socially, via happy hours, birthday celebrations, and my all-time favorite lunch; I should also spend some time getting to know people through the experience of getting the work done. While here at Grameen, I've had the pleasure of getting to know Michael through one piece of my assignment. I can explore ideas with him. We discuss the pros and cons of suggestions. It's really a collaborative affair. It reminds me of working with my friend Dean, but without all of the family-like arguing he and I would do. P.S. I miss Dean.

QUOTE: "If we commit to using every event, relationship, and experience as an opportunity to grow and learn, if we look for the ways in which each incident can support us in becoming the best human beings possible, we will most definitely see new possibilities in situations that might at first seem hopeless."

Cameron Rosenthal, at Grameen, has set-up a book club for a few women in the DC area to read The Right Questions by Debbie Ford. It's one of those self-help books that at first glance make you want to roll your eyes. You just know that she's a super-hippy and that by the end of the book she will be telling you that meat is bad (P.S. meat is good, any Brazilian BBQ place can prove that to be true). In acutality, I have taken a few quotes from the book and just chewed on them. Pasted them to facebook. Responded to how others interpreted the quotes. And I'm happy that Cameron recommended the book so I would think a bit more about things. The one above was particularly useful for thinking about how to turn the bad, into something good. And you get there through this next quote:

QUOTE: "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes." -- Marcel Proust

Now, I agree that looking at life from a different perspective can bring whole new sets of insights. At the same time, it is sometimes by being in a new landscape (e.g., my living in DC), that allows my eyes to see things through a new light.
