OPTIONS

I like having options,
It gives me the choice to opt in.
Options show paths on how life ought to be.

When I'm groking to the beat,
Sitting outside in the heat,
Options provide the fuel for dreaming about the true me.

Opening myself to options can yield a surprise.
Like going out on dates, and meeting different guys.
Some of those options said "you're pretty",
Other options said, "you're nice".
But at the end of the date, I was ready to be on my way, and get on with my life.

Still willing to explore options,
I chose to go out with no potions and go through the motions.
Yet imagine my surprise, when your smile caught my eyes, and broke some of my notions.

An ex in your life, whom you wanted as a wife,
A child you've raised, with whom you try to spend days,
Living so far, might as well be on MARS.
And being newly single, had to question whether you were ready to mingle.

Turned into proof you had a kind heart,
Evidence you have the will to finish what you start,
And a reminder to me, about what I wanted my life to be.

Of course there are days when I wish you were closer,
Nights I wondered why you seemed closed off.
Dreams where I wished my magic wand could solve,
All the open issues in our lives that need to be resolved.

But push come to shove,
If I had to chose,
I wouldn't change any of that news.
I'd accept the path that the universe made,
I'd continue to listen to my heart, and less to my brain,
If ever I'd question the option I'd made, all I'd do was remember our nights in the rain.
