Thanks to Duane, I've eaten there too

So, my friend from high school is still here in DC. He's staying at a hotel across the street from my place. This means a convenient person to hang out with, in the event that either of us needs a dinner partner! As a result, we've managed to go to:

  • Ben's Chili
  • Zanzibar's
  • Five Guys

These apparently are all well-known places to eat in DC. And frankly, if I hadn't visited these local eateries, I would have been an embarrasment to all of my Washingtonian friends!

Back at Grameen, things continue to go well. We are in the final stages of finding a developer who knows VBA and SQL. Honestly, what self-respecting programmer doesn't know these two languages? And if one exists, let me slap him or her! The bigger challenge is finding that special someone who also can become passionate about the goal of bringing people out of poverty. Really, who can honestly say they don't want to see poor people build themselves and their families up. Ok, anyone besides Scott. ;-)

Nonetheless, at a non-profit, the challenges that are normally faced with a corporation are multipied many times over. A lack of a budget, doesn't mean "only" a few thousand dollars to work with. It means, no cash. And with no budget allocated to find this person, it's all about reading out and getting to those networks! I'm hoping through my network we are able to find someone who can get the job done, in a timely manner!

As expected, my legs are killing me. They have been whimpering "what did we ever do wrong to you" all day. I planned to go to the gym to do yoga, but unfortunately, an invitation to get dinner at Five Guys over-ruled a yoga class. It could be a month before I have a weekday dinner partner. Do you blame me?! So, with a nice burger in my belly, having had a good laugh with friends, and visions of a project moving along at a nice clip -- I go to bed happy tonight.

  2. I was just thinking "my husband" seconds before reading the "anyone besides Scott" line :)

  3. Thanks for sending me your blog Alayne! I hope you are really enjoying my hometown. You should try out the Bohemian Taverns on U Street. I believe they still have soulful poetry nights. Also, a great place to eat in that area is Bus Boys and Poets. It is close to 14th & U street.
